Rompers as Wedding Attire:  Love it or Leave it?

When it comes to weddings and what to wear to them, I have always been a traditional kind of girl; a nice dress in something other than white, comfy heels or wedges, pearls, and a small purse or clutch.  While working in the wedding industry as a wedding planner’s assistant, I would see the occasional wedding attendee wearing a romper, and my feelings were always mixed.  (and many of you might feel that way, or just about rompers in general!)

When I used to see a lady wearing a romper to a wedding, usually my thoughts were that the romper was too short, too casual, or that the whole outfit looked…less than classy (think cutouts, strappy high-heels paired with a short romper and bare shoulders, etc.).  But then I noticed that the ladies who did pull off the romper trend well, followed a few simple rules.  They still looked classy, and eventually, I grew to love the wedding romper trend!

Check out my list of do’s and don’ts for wearing a romper to a wedding:

Rompers as Wedding Attire:  Do’s & Don’ts

DO choose a romper that isn’t too short in length; on bottom or on top.  By virtue of being a romper, the length will be shorter than most dresses, so make sure to pick something that has thicker straps, if you’re going off-the-shoulder, longer sleeves will add balance.

DO choose a romper in a well-made fabric.  Think cotton or linen for warmer temperatures, or chiffon.  Nothing makes a piece of clothing look cheap than cheaply made fabrics.

DO choose a romper with dressy details like wraps, lace, pleats, or ruffles.  Instant upgrade from casual to dressy.

DO opt for solid colors.  Solid colors over bold prints, especially if it has dressy details like mentioned above.

DON’T pair a short romper with high heels.  The higher the heel, the shorter the romper will appear.  A sandal or sandal wedge with a short or midsize heel is a good compromise!

DON’T pile on the accessories.  Go simple and classy with pearls or a delicate necklace, or completely forego the necklace and opt for earrings.  Let the romper be the statement piece. 🙂

Lauren James Romper

Even though I do not have plans to attend a wedding this summer, this romper is perfect for date night with M.!  I paired the bright turquoise romper with pearls, my go-summer straw handbag, and of course my favorite bright pink heels (also styled here).  The scallop open back is super cute, and you all know I love a good bow detail!  And the best part is that this romper is non-maternity, yet bump-friendly…meaning, I will be getting plenty of wear both this summer, and in summers to come! #win

Rompers & Jumpsuits Under $150

If you’re willing to give the romper or jumpsuit wedding trend a try, check out some of my favorites that are all under $150!  From wrap jumpsuits to preppy navy rompers, and everything in between, I’m sure you will fall in love with the trend just as much as I have.
