Monday Recap: Fiery Coral, Neon Turquoise, and Blooms

June 17, 2013

Happy Monday, lovelies!
The past few days have been a blur for me!  I went to Indiana to visit my family while my husband was in Italy for a conference, and came home Saturday, hoping to pick him up from the airport close to midnight, and found out that his flight from Chicago to here was cancelled…For no reason.  Really??
Long story short, he stayed in a hotel and flew in yesterday morning.  I was so excited to see him!!  I feel a little ridiculous, but I missed him like crazy even though he was only gone for a few days.  I even slept with a polo of his.  Oh yeah, I own being a sap 🙂

Today is a big day for me:  I have an interview for a music teaching position at an elementary school!  Out of thirty applicants, the hiring staff only chose to interview six.  Needless to say I am quite nervous.  I have only interviewed one other time for a teaching job, and it wasn’t the best experience in the world.  It was a group interview, with five other applicants, and we each took turns describing our teaching philosophies.  When it was my turn, I began talking about a philosophy that was a little different from everyone elses and talking about how it be effective.  When the principal asked me how I would apply that theory to the older students, one of the other applicants interrupted me and said “well, it wouldn’t work” and started to explain how SHE thought it wasn’t a very good theory.  In the middle of my question.  While I was trying to answer my question.  Is it mean to say that I am thankful she wasn’t the one who got the job??

I was pretty ruffled when it happened but I tried to conceal my annoyance and answer the questions.  What was even more intimidating was that I was the only candidate they interviewed who had not had any previous teaching experience.  I had only been out of school for a semester, and had substitute taught during that time, but every single one of the other interviewees in that room had all been teaching for at least a year and each had started their own choral programs at their respective schools.  I was in awe of the amount of experience and wisdom in the room, and I learned SO much by just listening to each candidate talk about their experiences.  But I was severely intimidated.

The Deets:
Shirt (similar) // Skirt (similar) // Shoes // Clutch (similar) // Necklace // Bangle // Cuff
Thankfully today I will be the only candidate in the room, and the PSA seems to be very nice.  He was actually the music teacher at this elementary school for the last few years, so it will be nice to speak with someone who understands my field and passion.  He himself was a first year teacher when he was hired, so he will sympathize with my predicament of “you need a job to get experience, and experience to get a job”.
It’s a tough market out there for teachers, especially teacher in specialized areas.  So make sure to thank your teachers for all the hard work they do, because they worked hard to get to where they are!
Say a little prayer for me at 11:30 and keep your fingers crossed!  I’ll keep you posted!
Oh, and a little bit about this outfit….Yup, totally still on the neon kick!  For church, I decided to keep the neon only to my accessories, but sometimes, that’s all an outfit needs!  Still on the fence about the neon trend?  Try it out in a color you are comfortable with, like turquoise for instance.  Just look for a neon version of it in a belt or a small clutch, or even a shoe, and inject little bits of neon into an outfit for instant pop!
Have a wonderful week, lovelies, and I look forward to talking some more!  I always enjoy reading your comments. 😀
What was your first interview like?
Did you have to go through many interviews before landing your current job?

Good luck to you my sweet friend! I prayed that you would have grace and wisdom for this interview today. I know that, if it is the right job for you, it will happen. God will be watching over you today! I am working on getting my 20 items together!! Can't wait! Why can't you be my neighbor and teach my kiddo about music? Sorry about the rude lady in the interview. There are yucky people everywhere. Just seek the Godly ones. Let me know how it goes!! Susan

Fantastic outfit Whit! So chic. I cannot believe that women interrupted you like that! That's is very rude. Best of luck to you girl as you go through your interviews. I may have missed it somewhere but are you wanting to teach High School or Elementary? Personally I'm half way through the teaching credential program and hoping to teach English at the high school level.
