OOTD: Kelly Green for Spring

March 30, 2013

Hello lovelies!
SO SO sorry for my absence this past week, starting a blog takes ALOT of work, and most of my time has been spent doing research for post topics and general blog management. For those of you back again, thank you for sticking around!

Easter is a very important, if not the most important, Christian holiday of the year.  It celebrates the sacrifice and triumph our Lord made to bring us to life.  To go with the theme of life, green, which symbolizes new life and growth, was my color of chose for the basis of my outfit.
So, for your aesthetic entertainment, I present to you my Outfit of the Day!

The Deets:
Blazer:  NY&Co. sold out online, similar here
Striped shirt:  H&M old, similar here
Pink Gingham:  JCrew Factory here
Scarf:  Lilly Pulitzer here
Shoes:  dELiA*s here
Bag:  Longchamp

I saw this blazer in the window display at New York & Company, with a beautiful “40% off EVERYTHING” sign. First of all, I am obsessed in love with blazers! I have been obsessing over wishing for a blazer in a bright, spring Kelly Green color. I had kept my eye out for a blazer like this but all seemed to be out of my price range…until the best four-letter word appeared: SALE.

I went into the store, trying not to show my interest, browsing the racks for a few minutes. But the blazer kept calling my name. I was afraid to go look at the price tag, in fear the my hopes would be dashed. It was either now, or never; I needed to walk over, take that chic, beautiful, sleek Kelly Green blazer off the rack and accept whatever fate the price tag had for me.
I walked over and took it off the rack…

Picked up the tag and flipped it over…

Glanced furtively at it…

Calculated the price after the discount *music is swelling in the background at this point*…

!!!!!!!!!!!!!$40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets just say that the hallelujah chorus should have been playing in the store at that moment because I was ecstatic!
I tried it on, perfect fit, gorgeous color, and the last one in my size…it was a match made in fashion heaven!

I smiled the whole way from the dressing room to the check-out desk, like a kid buying his first toy with his allowance. 😀

To keep my outfit professional for substitute teaching, I needed to balance the brightness of the blazer with a neutral color.  Paired with the navy ponte ankle pants, the bright ensemble was given a serious underpinning while not making the outfit appear stuffy (I mean, what could possibly make this outfit STUFFY??)
The pink gingham shirt underneath the Breton striped shirt and Lilly Pulitzer scarf contributed to the overall playfulness of the outfit…and pink with green is instant Spring chic!

Have I mentioned that I enjoy color??

With the blazer, scarf, and shirt being bright, I needed a shoe that would complete the look but not make the outfit overwhelming.  The beige flats complete the outfit but draw the eyes of the observer back up to the blazer and scarf.

OH, and did I mention the AMAZING new lipcolor I discovered???? OCC Lip Tar in Anime is now currently my fav go-to lip color…SO BRIGHT!! It adds a fun pop to an outfit, or completes a look when bold colors are already in use. I have fallen completely in love with bright, bold lip colors, but that is another post for another time (sooner than you think!). 🙂

I am looking forward to maaany more outfits this blazer could be a part of; whether it is the complete star of the show or paired with other cheery colors like today’s outfit.

How would you style this blazer? Leave your ideas below, I’d love to hear from you!
Have a Happy Easter, everyone!
