PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2014: RADIANT ORCHID

January 10, 2014

You have probably heard or seen through Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc., that Pantone announced in December the Color of the Year for 2014: Radiant Orchid. Pantone’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, describes it as “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
I’m going to be honest with you all, I wasn’t too excited about Orchid being the color chosen. Purple is a very tricky color for me to wear, anyway, and looking at the shade that Pantone had picked out, visions of my grandmother’s cozy pajamas came to mind, as well as the “more experienced in life” women’s section at JCPenney.
Gak.
At first, that is.
Well, ladies, I am rather happy to admit that I was completely wrong about this shade. I will always do a little “outfitting” research, looking for ways the color could be incorporated into my wardrobe, etc. I started to notice that I was very drawn to the darker shade of orchid, and before I knew it, I became obsessed with these shoes.
That did it for me.
Something about this bright, bold shade of purple that can really add a pop to any outfit.
So I did some more searching, and well, before you know it, I had this whole list compiled of pieces that I LOVED.
So lovelies, I’ve pulled some pieces that are different shades of Radiant Orchid. The great thing about this color is that it would compliment just about any skin tone and hair color! There are so many different shades of Orchid that even the most anti-purple person *cough cough* would be sure to find something they love.

What shade of Radiant Orchid is catching your eye?

Stay Classy!

I agree that when I first heard the color they selected, I felt like meh. But you have selected some items that I really love! The silk blouse is lovely and will look beautiful this spring! I also like the handbag and the polish color! Good picks and thanks for helping me realize that I dont have to be shopping in the old lady dept. to wear purple;) Susan
