GOODNESS, it’s gotten cold here the past several days!!  I have found myself putting on layers upon layers to stay warm, and I STILL have to wear a coat (lame).  Besides getting together for Thanksgiving dinner, picking out and cutting down a Christmas tree has become a new family tradition and we have all come to look forward to!  There is something so exciting about hunting for the perfect Christmas tree, arguing with your siblings about who found the tallest, and then finally agreeing that your little sister really did pick the best.  For tree-hunting, I will switch out the skirt for my comfy pair of jeans and keep the boots.  One tends to get warm when running up and down rows upon rows of Christmas trees, and I want to be as comfortable as possible so I can focus on finding the biggest tree this year 😀
This sweater from Old Navy is probably one of my favorite sweaters in my closet.  It’s SO WARM, and has a nice thick cable knit texture.  I’m so glad I saw it in stores because looking at it online, I thought it would be rather thin and not very good quality.  Boy, was I wrong!  The sweaters fit rather snugly, but I don’t like to wear baggy sweaters unless it’s with leggings and boots.  I think I might have to purchase it in the beige and hunter green colors, as well!  The vest I snagged two weeks ago in store while they were having 40% off on their outerwear, and in store it was already marked down to $29.99 (more than $10 less than online).  I had been waiting quite awhile to purchase this, it had already sold out online and for awhile, my store did not have them.  Imagine my surprise when I visited two weeks ago to find not one, but TWO full racks of this color alone!  Price I paid for this vest with the discount?  $17.  Score one for the budget fashionista!
I am so excited to see all of my family for Thanksgiving!  Tonight, my mother and I will make chicken and dumplings from scratch (a rather long but rewarding endeavor).  The recipe is my grandmother’s, and it is probably my most favorite dish, next to pumpkin pie!  Pray for me, however, I am going to attempt to make a small gluten-free batch (food allergies are such kill-joys!).  Curious as to what I will be wearing tomorrow?  See yesterday’s post for my outfit!
Looking back on this past year, I certainly have a lot to be thankful for.  Besides starting the blog and watching it take off (I still have to pinch myself!), God has really blessed with some amazing people that I have met and become close friends with, and I could not be more blessed by their friendships!  With all of the food that is to come and the impending Black Friday madness, it is so easy to lose sight of the true meaning of this holiday season (I know I have forgotten at least once or thrice).  It is a time to be with family, to be thankful for what you have been blessed with.  Don’t think you have any blessings?  Spend just a few minutes in an inner-city school and you’ll see you have much to be thankful for!  How easy it has been for me to forget what I have and instead look at what I don’t have.  Going into Thanksgiving Day tomorrow, I can’t help but think of my sweet kiddos at school who probably won’t have a special meal for Thanksgiving, and many of them don’t have both parents!  And to think I was worried about getting exactly what I wanted on Black Friday.
Everyone, I am challenging  you to look back this past year at all of the blessings you have received, the friends you have made, all of the experiences you have had, and be thankful.  Thankful that you are breathing.  Thankful that you are able to enjoy a wonderful meal tomorrow.  Thankful that you have family, or the memories of family.  Thankful that  God has given you this day, and thankful for all of the days He has already given you.  Never take anything for granted, and always be thankful.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels!
