TRENDY TUESDAY: STRIPES STRIPES STRIPES

Simple, straightforward, and one of the easiest patterns with which to mix patterns, the stripes pattern has been in popular existence since the 17th century (before that, only prostitutes, lepers, clowns, and jugglers wore the pattern)! With a myriad of variations, thick, thin, pinstripe, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, it’s no wonder that this pattern seems to be everywhere…and thankfully won’t be disappearing anytime soon! (That would be like bread disappearing….there would be no more PB&Js, and we all know that sandwich is a staple!)

Which brings me to my next point, a striped shirt, pant, skirt, accessory is really an outfit staple! Like leopard, a striped pattern could definitely pass for a neutral, or it could be the main feature in an ensemble.

So why am I talking about something that most of us already know? C’mon, Whit, this pattern is basically a no-brainer!

Then why do our hearts seem to flutter at the sight of a simple black and white striped shirt?
Of course you don’t already own two or three navy striped tops and are , at present, considering adding a fourth to your collection….

Don’t lie, I know you have at least three!

I walked into Gap yesterday and was pretty much entranced by all the different colored striped shirts. As in, I’ll take one in every single color, please! And don’t even get me started on Old Navy, J.Crew Factory, and Boden….I tried to keep my list rather short

With so many options, it really only takes one piece to maximize your wardrobe! One striped button down offers at least three different styling options! Wear it over a dress and tie a knot at the waist for a layered chic look (and turn that dress into a skirt!). Layer it under a sweater, or a thin knit pullover for a fun and easy dose of pattern.
And polka dots and stripes are always a good idea!.

Stripes are always classy, and that is why I have no qualms about my ever growing striped shirts collection :D.
