Weekend Wear: Color Love and Polka Dots

May 10, 2013

Happy Friday, lovelies!!
I am so excited that it’s the weekend, time to kick back, relax, catch up on housework, quite a few job applications to fill out, blog posts to plan and write, laundry to do…Ok, so maybe there really isn’t going to be much R&R this weekend for me, but if I stay busy, maybe it will take my mind off of shopping (or the lack thereof)…

There is a Farmer’s Market that happens in the summer every Saturday downtown, which for me is just a short bike ride away, and I can’t wait to attend!!  Fresh, locally grown fruits and veggies and artisan cheeses are pretty hard to beat!  Mmmm, I can already taste the fresh tomatoes….Did I mention I have a lot to do this weekend??  Keep myself busy, no temptation to shop.  Anyone else doing the Closet Remix Challenge??

On the weekends, I usually just throw on a pair of jeans, a comfy tee, and a scarf to run errands in.  I decided I wanted to change things up a bit and wear something that would easily transition from running errands to lunch-date with friends.
Oh, and it also has to be comfortable, and functional for both warm and cool temperatures.  High expectations?  Maybe.  Doable?  Oh yeah.

For an outfit to be comfortable, I have to be able to move around without constantly fidgeting with some aspect of it.  Chino shorts are your best option for looking chic but staying mobile at the same time.  Paired with a gauzy button down shirt, low slung heels, and a belt, the outfit looks polished but is still comfortable enough for running a lot of errands.  Add blazer if the temperature is supposed to change, and you have daytime chic with little to no fuss!  The great thing about a blazer is that t’s not as heavy as a coat or jacket so it can easily be folded up and placed into a purse or shopping bag if it becomes too warm.

Low heeled-high heels will instantly dress up any outfit you wear them with.  Pumps would fulfill the same purpose, but we’re going for comfort and utility rather than glamour.
Oh, and don’t forget your accessories!  Statement necklaces and a nice stacked wrist are another great way to dress up a casual outfit.  Nothing says glam like some bling-bling!
And last of all, a good tote bag.  I highly recommend investing in a bag that can be packed with all your essentials but still add glam to any outfit.  I’m sure most of you have heard of Longchamp or probably own one or two (or five!) of the Le Pliage handbags….These bags are PERFECT for just about anything!  Most of the Le Pliage line, which is the style of this bag, is made of a durable nylon material, easy to clean, and can literally be thrown around anywhere and hardly show a signs of wear.  And if you buy a large one like this one, you can pack your entire life into it and still have room to spare!

Isn’t this lantern and orchid print just adorable???

These heels are seriously THE most comfortable heels I have ever worn! They are made by Unisa, and seriously, any shoe you buy from them, you will NOT complain of discomfort.  Their sandals are fabulous, with great arch support, and they are adorable!  I bought this pair while in Germany a couple of summers ago, and I literally shopped all day long in the large port city of Hamburg in them!  And it wasn’t all nice sidewalks, either, there were plenty of cobblestone streets, stairways and city blocks to be walked.  Look for them at your local DSW

The Outfit Deets:
Blazer:  eBay
Shirt:  J.Crew Factory, look for less
Shorts:  American Eagle, look for less (J.Crew Factory on sale for $23.50!!)
Bag:  Longchamp, sold out
Shoes:  Unisa, old, loving these
Necklace:  Bestquality666 <-Etsy
Bracelets:  Etsy, J.Crew, and Forever 21 (sold out)

So ladies, I challenge you to put away the comfy clothes and instead try dressing up just a little bit more than you usually would for running errands.  Find a piece of clothing that can function both for comfort and chicness and build from!  We all know that when we put a little extra effort into how we dress, even for just casual activities, it puts a little pep in our step!  Try out it, and let me know what you come up with, I’d love to hear from you!

What do you normally wear for weekend activities?
How could you dress it up a bit?

Have a wonderful weekend, lovelies, and look for my Saturday Smoothie post tomorrow!
XOXO, Whit
