Ok, I am obsessed with this necklace. I know I say that a lot about things in my closet, but who can resist anything nautical??? I would like to state for the record that I did not plan for this outfit to be nautical, it sort of just happened. I’m trying to go through my closet and pull out pieces that I haven’t worn in awhile, and these red skinnies caught my eye. I’ve had them for two years now, you know, back when colored denim was new and red was the “IT” color to have….You can guess what happened.
I searched for hours trying to find the perfect pair that wouldn’t break the bank (and scoured Pinterest like crazy), and when I finally found them, I felt like the cool kid. So far, I had not seen anyone around me wearing colored denim, and these babies DEFINITELY made a statement! And then the colored denim trend flowed on, and red was no longer the cool color, so into my drawer they went, not to be seen for years (isn’t it funny how trends take away our excitement?).

Well, ladies, I am bringing back the red denim! I’m not quite sure why I packed these away and hadn’t worn them in so long, I’m literally falling in love with them all over again! Red is such a sassy yet classy color, and like navy, it’s practically a neutral! Seriously, what colors can you not pair with it?? (And yes, pink and red when done right pair beautifully together!).
OK, so back to the outfit, I swear, I didn’t intentionally plan a nautical-themed look! I just thought that my herringbone vest would look smashing with the red denim, and then I had to think of something that would go with it, something that would not compete with the red skinny jeans for attention. Wouldn’t you know that stripes are so easy to pair with, well, anything?
And I have another confession to make; I have also had this top for over two years, and it has also been sitting in my closet, hardly worn, for said number of years (what is wrong with me??). I’m not quite sure why I have not worn it much, but now it’s going to be really hard for me to not wear it, because again, it’s another perfect wardrobe staple that can be worn layered or by itself. You can never have too many Breton tops.
Btw, that is what a simple white shirt with thin stripes is called, a Breton (‘e’ pronounced as in “egg”) shirt
And I don’t think I need to go over how I believe chambray is another wardrobe necessity….#greatestthingsinceslicedbread

Love this! As much as I love nautical looks I shy away in the winter but I have all these pieces or similar and I could do this! Interesting about the colored jeans… Maybe it is a cultural/location based trend? I LOVE my red jeans and up North colored jeans still seem to be strong. I wear various ones a lot and sometimes wear regular ones less! My red jeans I hunted for are from Old Navy last year- which seemed to be big last year. It seems like maybe colored jeans rose as a faster trend down south perhaps?
