Workwear Wednesday: Navy Tweed Jacket

May 9, 2018

navy tweed jacket workwear wednesday preppy ginghamShop the Post:

Jacket:  SheIn, c/o (sold out, love this & this one)  |  Pants:  J.Crew Factory  |  Pullover:  J.Crew Factory  |  Gingham:  J.Crew Factory  |  Pumps:  Sole Society (old, love these & these)  |  Clutch:  Tory Burch (old, similar here)

The Dilemma:

I’ll be the first to admit, being a SAHM has equal parts advantages and disadvantages.  Not having to wake up (most days) at the crack of dawn.   Having to share my lunch with my ‘coworker’ (she’s in a “what’s on Mama’s plate tastes 10x better” phase).   Getting to watch my daughter grow and discover new things, spontaneous trips to the park or zoo.   Until my husband gets home from work, I have little to no adult conversation/interaction.  I can wear casual clothes on the daily (and some days, never making it out of yoga pants)…just to name a few!

Besides having little adult conversation and being able to take unsupervised trips to the restroom, I noticed that I started missing getting dressed up for work.  While I was teaching music at an elementary school, I had a fairly less-rigid dress code, as my outfits needed to afford me the ability to move around and be able to go from a desk, to the floor, and back up.  But I still looked professional and put-together.

Other than attending church on Sundays (and our church is pretty casual), and the occasional brunch or ladies’ night out with girlfriends, I don’t have many opportunities or reasons to wear something other than casual attire.  Which means, I have a wonderfully curated section of my closet with chic blazers, colorful chinos and skirts that don’t see much action.  And as a fashionista, I love a well-tailored blazer and put-together look just as much as the next girl!

The Solution:

So I’ve decided I’m going to make it my goal to break out my business casual and semi-professional attire, and dress up once a week.  Even if it’s for no reason other than grocery shopping at Kroger.  I may be the SAHM of a toddler with Baby #2 on the way, and most days we are either hanging around the house or going to the park, dressing up helps me to retain my personal identity!

While I truly do love my new “workwear” uniform of comfy-chic-functional, I am looking forward to putting together more professional looks. 🙂

Preeti took these photos when the temperatures were not quite spring-like, so to make this outfit more comfortable for warmer temperatures, you can either forego the button down completely, or not leave the sweater at home and opt for a solid color button down. 🙂

Stay Classy!
